Nigeria’s seasoning brand, Knorr, is deepening its cultural connection with the people of the South-East through vibrant participation in major community celebrations, reaffirming its commitment to honouring tradition, fostering unity, and using food as a bridge across generations.

This year, Knorr’s cultural journey began with its sponsorship of the August Meeting, a revered homecoming event that gathers South-East women from all walks of life to their ancestral homes each August.  The brand said in a statement on Wednesday that its involvement in Onitsha, Owerri, and Aba highlighted the significance of food as a vessel of memory, tradition, and storytelling.

The August Meeting, a platform where women reflect on family and societal progress, provided Knorr an opportunity to celebrate women’s strength and nurture community bonds through shared culinary experiences. At the various event locations, the brand hosted lively cooking competitions and communal feasts where women proudly showcased traditional recipes passed down through generations, demonstrating the richness of South-East cuisine.

Knorr creators and cultural ambassadors — chefs Chiamaka Nwakalor-Egemba and Onyinye Emechebe, nutritionist Nancy Umeh, and Nollywood actress Racheal Okonkwo — added star power to the gatherings. Their participation in the culinary showcases brought excitement and reinforced Knorr’s message of connection through food.

In appreciation of the women’s participation and cultural contributions, Knorr presented thoughtful gifts, including Ankara fabrics, cooking utensils, pressure cookers, microwaves, and cartons of Knorr cubes. The gesture underscored the brand’s place in the homes and hearts of South-East families and its role in empowering women as cultural custodians.

Continuing its cultural outreach, Knorr also supported the 2025 Ofala Festival in Onitsha, Anambra State — one of the South-East’s most prestigious traditional events. The Ofala Festival marks the end of the Obi of Onitsha’s period of retreat and his re-emergence to bless the people, a ceremony steeped in unity, reverence, and royal pageantry.

This year’s edition, themed “Njiko na Ntachi” (Unity and Perseverance), resonated deeply with Knorr’s ethos of togetherness and shared joy through food. The brand’s participation included hosting communal cooking experiences and tasting booths where guests savoured traditional dishes made with Knorr.

The food-filled interactions complemented the festival’s colourful highlights—from the Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala ceremonies to age-grade parades, royal dances, and cultural performances that illuminated Onitsha’s rich heritage. Knorr’s presence infused flavour into the festivities, blending the warmth of food with the vibrancy of tradition.

Speaking on Knorr’s involvement, the Food Demand Creation Lead at Unilever Nigeria Plc, Dami Dania, said, “At Knorr, we believe that food is a powerful connector of people, culture, and community. We are honoured to be part of this year’s August Meeting and Ofala Festival celebrations, supporting the people of the South-East in preserving their rich traditions and creating shared joy through the meals that bring us together. These are beautiful reminders of how community and food can come together to tell our stories and strengthen our cultures.”

Through these engagements, Knorr has positioned itself not merely as a seasoning brand but as a curator of culture and connector of communities. By celebrating the culinary and communal traditions of the South-East, the brand demonstrates how food transcends the kitchen to become a language of identity, unity, and heritage. From the August meeting’s communal feasts to the grandeur of the Ofala Festival, Knorr continues to stand with the South-East, promoting shared values of togetherness, respect, and cultural pride. With every meal, celebration, and partnership, Knorr reaffirms its role as a household name that honours tradition — and serves as a unifying flavour in Nigeria’s cultural story.
