There are strong indications that the Federal Government would soon intervene to resolve the personality conflict between the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Maikanti Baru.
Although Mr. Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman, declined comments on the issue yesterday, a source in the Presidency disclosed that President Buhari was aware of the development and that plans were underway to resolve the conflict. The source said: ‘’The President has been fully briefed and has communicated to the parties involved. I am sure the matter would be resolved because the government needs to create the enabling environment for the duo to work together in the best interest of the oil and gas industry and the nation.
‘’I cannot tell you when that would be, but certainly the government would intervene as quickly as possible.”
Investigations showed that Baru and NNPC’s management team have decided not to speak so as not to escalate the conflict. Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, spokesman of the NNPC, did not also take his call nor respond to text messages yesterday.Read more
