ICSAN President, Ayeku Emerges CSIA Vice-President

The President of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), Mr. Bode Ayeku, has been elected the Vice-President of the Corporate Secretaries International Association (CSIA).

Ayeku, a veteran Governance Professional, emerged the Vice-President of the global Association at a recent election by the body. He was an EXCO member of the Association prior to his present election as the Vice-President.

According to a statement made available by  the CSIA, Ayeku was unanimously elected at the body’s recent Annual Council Meeting alongside two other top members,  Ashish Siew and  Chuan Chua  who were elected the President and the Secretary of the Association respectively.

In the statement titled “CSIA Welcomes Honourary Officers for 2021, the global Governance Association wrote as follows: “CSIA held its Annual Council Meeting on 7 and 8 September 2020 and we are delighted to introduce the Honorary Officers for 2021

“Ashish Garg (President), Bode Ayeku (Vice-President) and Siew Chuan Chua (Secretary) were unanimously elected to lead CSIA into a new decade we look forward to their capable guidance taking the organisation to even greater heights.”

CSIA was established in Geneva in 2010 as an association constituted according to article 60 of the Swiss Civil Code and entered into the commercial register in Switzerland. CSIA was officially launched at the World Bank Headquarters in Paris on 23 March 2010 under the auspices of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

CSIA, has since its establishment, been a  Global Voice of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals.

Its mission is to create a global profession that develops, grows and promotes best practice in Corporate Secretarial, Corporate Governance and compliance services by improving professional standards, the quality of governance practice and organisational performance worldwide.

A congratulatory message signed by the Registrar of ICSAN, Mrs. Taiwo Olusesi, FCIS, attributed the elevation of Ayeku to the coveted office to his passion for hard work, integrity and pursuit of excellence in Corporate Governance matters. 

The message reads in part “On behalf of the Governing Council, Committees, Members and Staff, we Congratulate you on your recent election as the Vice- President of CSIA.  

“This is undoubtedly the reward of hard work and excellence which you have consistently shown on the home front and across board. 

 “Your election is a positive development and a thing of pride for the Iinstitute and all stakeholders associated with us. Hearty congratulations Mr. President as you continue to soar in excellence.”

Ayeku, who has been the ICSAN President since 2019, is a Lawyer and Chartered Secretary with passion for excellence in all his endeavors. He graduated from the University of Lagos in 1991 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992. He obtained his Master of Laws degree from the University of Lagos in 1995.

He completed the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (ICSA) United Kingdom professional examinations in 1998. 

He was appointed the Company Secretary / Legal Adviser of Nestlé Nigeria Plc with effect from 1 January 2008. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. He is a member of the Governing Council of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) and the Chairman of the Committee of Legal Advisers and Company Secretaries of NECA.

 He has attended several local and international courses and presented papers at various programmes.
