Nigerians have taken to the social media to criticise the declaration by President Muhammed Buhari that he would head the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. Buhari was said to have dropped the hint in an interview with a foreign news medium in his hotel shortly before leaving New York.
The President was in New York to participate in the 70th United Nations General Assembly.
An angry online user, Nija United, said: “I wonder what Nigerians expect from 74yrs old man (Buhari) in this digital age even when professors retire at 70. Buhari has all the time to compile this list but no he was prevaricating and procrastinating only to rush in with incomplete list at last minute the usual Nigerian way. Upon that he has assumed petroleum minister.” Another user, Otitokoro, said: “For the President to show reluctance in appointing Ministers and at the same time calling them noise makers show some level of unpreparedness on the part of the President and APC.

Shortly after assuming office, Buhari sacked and replaced the management of the company, following alleged cases of corruption with millions of dollars said to be missing in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
The incidence seems to have confirmed recent fears that the President has been unable to compile a comprehensive list of his cabinet.
