National Assembly Gets Less Than 1 Percent Of Nigeria’s Budget – Senator Gemade

By Chijioke Jannah
The Senator representing Benue North East in the National Assembly, Barnabas Gemade has dismissed speculations that the federal legislatures get larger chunk of the nation’s income.
The Senator, who stated that the National Assembly gets only but 0.06 per cent of the national budget, wondered why those whose interest they are protecting through effective legislation were only worried about their take home.
According to him, the emphasis should be more on what the executives are doing for the people, hence that is their statutory assignment.
He told Leadership Newspaper: “The usual allegation is that all the money of Nigeria is been eaten by the National Assembly. And the press is more than dedicated to that responsibility that they have assigned themselves of telling Nigerians how much of their money we are eating here in NASS.
“This is in spite of the fact that 115bn which is the budget of the National Assembly is only 0.06% of the National Budget”.
