Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze expressed a bit of surprise and excitement after winning his first English Premier League Man of The Match award after their 2-1 win at Tottenham on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Chukweuze was instrumental to their win, setting up Kenny Tete in the fourth minute for the opening goal – his second consecutive assist and this in the league this season.

He was named the Man of The Match after the game, earning his second consecutive accolade in the league after being named the club’s Legend of The Match during their 1-0 win over Sunderland last week.

He came off the bench last week to provide the assist for Fulham’s lone goal against Sunderland, and that earned him his first start under Marco Silva.

Speaking after the game, Samuel Chukwueze reflected on how he has overcome his recent struggles.

“I wasn’t expecting it today. But I was focusing on doing the hard work, and kept working, and I took the opportunity today” Chukwueze told Sky Sports.

“They push me really hard in training and keep me motivated. We are so proud of the result today. We worked for it in the training pitch.

“The players gave everything on the field. We had to defend with all our lives. This win is very, very important.”

Before Saturday, he had only played five EPL games – all as substitutes.

Chukwueze is on loan from AC Milan, and with Fulham holding an option to buy for about €25m, the 26-year-old will be out to impress Silva and avoid another move in the summer.

Next up for the Cottagers is a game against Manchester City on Tuesday.
