United Keen On Cancelling Valdes Deal

Indications have emerged that Manchester United are considering cancelling goalkeeper Victor Valdes’ contract but only if he joins a club outside the Premier League.

The Spain international joined United on an 18-month deal in January after leaving Barcelona but coach Louis van Gaal’s pecking order seems to favour David De Gea, Sergio Romero and Sam Johnstone ahead of Valdes.

Sources said at the weekend that Chelsea and Liverpool were keeping tabs on his situation, with a view to a January move.

However, sources have now said that, while both the player and the club want a solution to the current situation and United are open to cancelling his contract, they would stipulate that he can only move to a team outside the Premier League.

Louis van Gaal said in the summer that Valdes had no future at Old Trafford because he refused to appear for the club’s reserve side last season, and he has since been frozen out of the first team.

Van Gaal has reportedly instructed Valdes to turn up for training when the first team are not there and to work with the youth teams’ coaches.

Due to the fact he was not a free agent when the transfer window closed on Sept. 1, Valdes would not be permitted to join another Premier League club until January regardless of whether his contract is terminated.
