Argentine forward Lionel Messi scored a sensational goal against Arsenal on Wednesday night to set new record in the history of the UEFA Champions League.
Messi’s goal is his ninth effort against Arsenal in the Champions League and no other player in the history of the competition has scored more goals against a single club.
The Argentine capped off a 3-1 victory on Wednesday evening with a stunning scooped finish from close range to blight Arsenal’s chances of progress to the next stage of the competition.
Arsenal started the game on a good note, and forced clearances from Barcelona defence as Mesut Ozil, Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez all combined to test the Barcelona shot-stopper.
But lone goals from the attacking trio of Messi, Luiz Suarez and Neymar were enough to extinguish the Gunners hopes of a turnaround replay.
