The increasing need to solve dearth of professionals and young executives in media management industry in Nigeria has given birth to the first media academy in West Africa, Alphabet Media Academy.
The launch took place in Lagos recently and it is said to be established to provide a post graduate media advertising training for the entrants approaching the media advertising profession and young executives already working in the industry.
Highlighting the objectives of the academy, the Dean of Alphabet Media Academy and former Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria Registrar/CEO Dr. Josef Bel-Molokwu said the academy will train students who would like to improve their current employment, while others would be trained to be employable and the Academy shall assist them in job placement with prospective employers.
“We will like to contribute to the ecosystem by providing a constant flow of trainees/students who are well-trained with hands-on practical experience,” Bel-Molokwu said.
Professor of Mass Communication School of Communication, Lagos State University, Prof. Lai Oso, who is the director of the Academy said that “AMA is by the industry, for the industry as both board of directors led by veteran in the industry, Dr. Vincent Oyo and the faculty members are all media advertising industry and active practitioners.”
Meanwhile, Oyo said AMA unique advantages for students to take the big leap include guaranteed employment on graduation for the top 10 graduands (diploma) in leading media advertising agencies in Nigeria, 6 months internship with leading media advertising agencies as part of Diploma program.”
Other benefits include exposure to the most reputable practitioners of marketing, marketing communications and media advertising during special industry sessions as part of the curriculum and foreign study trip for students designed as part of the standard learning centre environment,” Oyo mentioned.
The academy offers 2 programmes- basic: Certificate (post Graduate Certificate in Media Management and advanced- Diploma (Post graduate Diploma in Media Management).
While PGCMM takes 10 weeks to complete, PGDMM students go through the programme in 23 weeks. The study centre is located at Grange School, GRA Ikeja.
