Maltina School Games 2021: Lagos State Finals Held Amidst Glitz and Glamour

Following the successful completion of preliminary stages of the Maltina School Games held across four states within the Federation, the Lagos State final of the Maltina School Games 2021 has also come to an exhilarating close.

L-R: Funso Ayeni, National Trade Marketing Manager, Nigerian Breweries Plc; Olabisi Joseph, President, Nigeria School Sports Federation; Sunday Akin Dare, Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Development; Demilade Ajayi, Overall Best Athlete from International School UNILAG; and Sade Morgan, Corporate Affairs Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc; at the Celebratory Breakfast for all Lagos State Gold Medalists at the just concluded 2021 Maltina School Games.

The event which was held from the 14th to 16th of June, 2021 took place at the famous Sports Centre, Yaba College of Technology, Yaba and featured 44 student athletes who impressively participated in different track and field competitions.

Winning first place in the 400m Junior Girls’ and Junior Boys’ race was Femisola Mohammed and Etuk Caleb with a record time of 1.01 minutes and 55.51 seconds respectively. 

In the Senior Boys’ and Senior Girls’ category, John Rueben from Oreyo Senior Grammar School and Giwa Boluwatife from Yewa Senior Grammar School both won first place. 

Also from Yewa Senior Grammar School,  Oguntunde Anu emerged first place in the Senior Girls’ category for Javelin. Athletes; Olaopa Toheeb, Ojo Kehinde, Ifadolere Emmanuel and Adebayo Munirat were pronounced winners in the 800m race under different subcategories.

The International School, University of Lagos, seemed to be leading the pack with representatives winning gold medals in the 800m race for the Senior Boys’ category, 400m Junior Girls’ category and Long Jump Senior Boys’ category.  

Speaking at the event, Senior Brand Manager, Maltina, Elohor Olumide-Awe, said, “We are incredibly proud of all the students, they have put in their best to get to this stage. We hope that they continue to keep the spirit of sportsmanship alive as they progress through life. We trust that this will be the beginning of greater strides for them all.”

Entertaining the participants and the audience was Nigerian singer-songwriter Mayorkun who rounded up the event with a thrilling performance.

Several prominent members of the Nigerian Breweries as well as the NSSF President; Mrs Olabisi Joseph, also graced the occasion, some of which include; Legal Director and Company Secretary, Uaboi Agbebaku; Marketing Director Emmanuel Oriakhi, Corporate Affairs Director, Sade Morgan, amongst others.
