Dangote Upholds Environmental Sustainability Agenda

As the the world joined hands to commemorate 2023 sustainability week, Pan-African conglomerate, Dangote Industries Ltd., has restated that environmental sustainability will continue to be on the front burner of its conversations.

The indigenous multi-purpose company said its agenda focus will be revolving on prioritizing the use of natural and renewable resources.

Arvind Pathak, the Group Managing Director, Dangote Cement Plc, made this commitment as the company demonstrated its support while marking this year’s  Sustainability Week.

He said Dangote has been at the forefront of discussion since 2017 when the vision was embraced. Pathak noted that the initiative kicked off with the adoption of seven Sustainability pillars, anchored on cultural, economic, operational, social, environmental, financial and institutional, across every aspect of business operations.

Pathak noted that since its inauguration, employee volunteers have increased by 73 percent. This, he said, is “a testament to our vibrant Sustainability culture.”

The company’s GMD added that his company has been educating both Small and Medium Enterprises on ways of sustainable production and consumption to drive a more conducive society and spur economic development.

He also commended the Lagos State Government for its commitment to good governance, demonstrated by the various environmental initiatives embarked upon by the state’s environment and water resources ministry.

“I urge all stakeholders present to partake in the various educational sessions and activities, patronise the exhibitors and network with other sustainability enthusiasts. At the fair, members of our host communities, visitors as well as employees must learn to prioritise the use of natural and renewable resources. It is also important to transfer the knowledge gained back to your various organisations and homes for implementation,” he said.

The Commissioner, Lagos Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, urged the public to be more disciplined in waste disposal.

Wahab, represented by the Deputy Director, Climate Change and Environmental Planning, Mr Bankole Michael, advised residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
