Heineken Unveils Limited Edition Bottle

Heineken, has unveiled a limited edition of the iconic Heineken bottle in continual commemoration of its 150 years anniversary.

The unveiling, which took place during the Lagos Fashion Week, sponsored by Heineken at the Balmoral Event Center, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, was attended by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, top fashion entrepreneurs and celebrities.  According to the promoters of the Heineken brand, the limited edition bottle is in celebration of “150 years of giving joy”, which was the theme of the anniversary.

It would be recalled that a few months ago, Heineken unveiled a universal campaign aimed to convey a message of inclusivity, embracing people worldwide, and sharing good times, regardless of how they refer to the brand.

The new bottle and cans of Heineken now carry the 150-year words between the iconic red star logo on it as well as ‘Chairman’ as it’s popularly called by Nigerians. The words on the can read: “Heineken Original 150 years. Heineken in Nigeria AKA “Chairman”, One name for good times since 1873.”

Speaking on the Fashion Week, Mr. Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, on his social media handle noted that the show is not just about creativity but also about economic force.

His words: “At LagosFashionWeek 2023, I stood proudly in the heart of a city that’s the epicentre of art, culture, and expression.  Lagos is where creativity thrives. We continue to support this vibrant community because we believe in its power to transform our city and our economy. Closing the Emmy Kasbit show yesterday, I’m reminded of how creativity isn’t just about fashion; it’s an economic force. Creativity is a catalyst for growth. We’ll keep investing in our creative minds, ensuring they have the platform to shine.”

He added: “The creative industry has an opportunity to significantly contribute more to our GDP and provide jobs. Our government is committed to nurturing this industry’s growth. Lagos and Nigeria are taking the world by storm with our art and fashion. Let’s together build a brighter, more prosperous future.”

Kola Akintimehin, Senior Brand Manager, Heineken, Nigerian Breweries, while speaking on the launch and its significance for the brand and Nigerian consumers, said: “As we unveil these ‘Chairman’ bottles, we’re not just celebrating our 150-year legacy; we’re embracing the future of Heineken in Nigeria. It’s a tribute to our consumers, our partners, and our incredible journey in this remarkable country. With these bottles, we’re not just sharing a drink; we’re sharing a story, a tradition, and a promise to continue creating gezelligheid, a truly exceptional experience for our valued Nigerian consumers.”

The Heineken 150th-anniversary celebrations are not limited to Nigeria. Globally, the brand is marking this milestone with unique limited edition bottle designs. In Japan, ‘Heineken’ is reimagined as ‘He150ken,’ using the Japanese syllable alphabet, katakana, and in Spain, special bottles will bear the phrase ‘PiensaenVerde’.
