Nigeria’s power generation company, Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, which operates the Federal Government’s Kainji, Jebba, and Zungeru hydropower plants, has repaired the Nasarawa Sabon Pegi Bridge in Niger State.
The bridge, which collapsed on Friday, truncated movement for commuters linking the Northern and Southern parts of the country.
Spokesperson for the organisation, Olugbenga Adebola, said in a statement on Sunday that the bridge was repaired within 24 hours after its collapse on the back of a heavy rainfall on Friday.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency had previously issued warnings of heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding over the weekend, which were accompanied by thunderstorms.
Already, most communities have been sacked in the region due rising flooding.
Adebola said the incident, reported early on Friday morning, led to disruption and concern within local communities.
He noted that in response, the energy company was promptly contacted, and the company’s board, led by Sani Bello, immediately authorised the necessary intervention to repair the bridge.
The company thereafter mobilised Kalifate Engineering, which completed the repair within 24 hours.
The Executive Director of Mainstream Energy, Siraj Abdullahi, while reacting to the development, said, “This is what Mainstream is about. We have brought relief and restored the economic artery of the Borgu Land and the Southern Sokoto and Kebbi States.”
The Waziri of Borgu, a community located in area, Abdullahi Nuhu Sa’adu, said commended the speed at which the company repaired the bridge.
He said, “Onbehalf of The Emir of Borgu, the Borgu Emirate, and the Entire people of Borgu kingdom, I want to once again register our profound gratitude to MESL, and specially express our heartfelt pleasure to you the Executive Director to your prompt responses to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Borgu.”
