For young women about to marry, popular Nigerian actress and film producer, Bukky Wright, revealed why they should be watchful before jumping into the marriage train, saying everybody is not created to be married.
Relieving her ordeal at an event organised by Inclusive Women to raise awareness on domestic violence against women, the pretty actress and mother of two, said young women should be ready to face “life-imprisonment” before they swear to the marital oath.
“I got married for the wrong reasons. And I also got married the first time to the wrong person. You (single women) must ask yourself if your reasons for getting marriage are right.
“Overtime, I’ve tried to please people and ended up hurting myself all in the name of marriage. At a point, I took to comfort eating just to ease off my troubles. I couldn’t talk to anybody.
Bukky Wright, who vied for the post of senator in 2015 Ogun State House of Assembly elections to advance the cause of women, said the position of African tradition on marriage is reason why most women die in silence.
“Most women remain in abusive relationships because of fear of the unknown. And sometimes, we use African tradition to put women in pains in the name of marriage. African or no African values, I’m human; blood runs in my veins.
