Leading Electric Vehicle manufacturer and distributor – SAGLEV Electro Mobility Company has leased the rooftop of the multi-level car park of Mega Plaza Shopping Mall, leading retail outlet to provide multiple charging points for users of Electric Vehicles in Lagos Metropolis and launched the first set of points at the Mega Plaza. The decision to site charging points in the heart of Victoria Island Lagos underscores the commitment of SAGLEV to climate action by increase the adoption of Electronic Vehicles by catering to one of the most concerning issues about its usage, which is power.
Speaking at the agreement signing, the CEO of SAGLEV Electro Mobility Dr. Sam Segun Faleye stated that ‘Electric Vehicles are the poster child of sustainability that many talk about. With what we are doing today, we are putting words into action by identifying credible locations and reputable organisations that attract good footfalls of our target audience which will help us to increase the number of EVs on our roads and positioning them as viable alternatives to the energy challenges and the shocks brought about by the increase in petrol prices occasioned by the removal of subsidy on petrol by the government’.
He added ‘With our range of EV offering, we are solving many challenges at a go – reducing the cost of motoring and commuting, reducing carbon emissions, providing employing, developing capacity and positioning Nigeria as a ready environment towards achieving the global goals. This charging point at rooftop car park of Mega Plaza Shopping Mall is the first of such and there are others to go live in no distant time in Lagos and Abuja as pilot phases’.
The General Manager Mega Plaza Shopping Mall Irfan Vayani, expressed enthusiasm regarding the partnership with SAGLEV, emphasizing its alignment with the Mall’s vision of progress and commitment to embracing electric vehicles (EVs). Vayani noted that ‘Mega Plaza has always supported worthwhile initiatives and sees SAGLEV as a catalyst for popularizing EVs in Lagos. The mall is proud to be at the forefront of environmental responsibility, announcing plans to become the first in Nigeria to offer electric vehicle charging points’.
