Three Final Year FUTA Students of Launch Open Data Portal  

Three final year students of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) have launched an Open Data Access Portal (NODA) with the support of Connect Development, The Students are Ayodele Adeyemo (Remote Sensing and GIS); Eyitemi Egbejule (Electrical Electronics Engineering); and Eyo Okon Eyo (Computer Science).
 
The NODA project was unveiled in Akure, Ondo State at an event graced by data experts including Seun Inigbinde of BudgIT,  Nkechi Nkwuone from the School of Data and Oludotun Babayemi from Connected Development.
 
The Nigerian open data access is one of the few open data portals in Africa that provides high quality datasets to its users. This portal was borne out of the passion for the need of the development of local Content Applications by innovators, increased problems focused on solving local problems, promoting civil engagement and transparency in the government.
 
The platform is free of charge and without restriction. There will be data on all schools, all hospitals, all water points, all road data, rivers, and settlements and this data will be available in the public domain and downloadable in Excel, XML and PDF formats.
 
[ad id=”599″]Also included on the platform are data from last year’s budget concerning Education, Health,  Transportation,  Government expenditure and Telecoms –  MTN, Airtel and Globalcomm, excluding Etisalat.
 
This data is now available to researchers, students, Developers, NGOs, Government Agencies, Private businesses and freelancers on opendata.com.ng
