Akwa Ibom set to restructure basic education system

 
Akwa Ibom State Government has concluded plans for the restructuring of basic education system to facilitate the impartation of specialised knowledge by teachers based on their fields of study.
 
The Commissioner for Education, Mr. Aniekan Akpan, stated this during a presentation of educational materials by an Akwa Ibom Dakkada Ambassador, Ufot Ekong, to secondary school students in the three Senatorial Districts of the state.

Mr. Akpan disclosed that more teachers have been recruited to teach the pupils in different areas of specialisation and that state government has paid monthly subventions to schools on regular basis, adding that subvention to Akwa Ibom University has been increased from two hundred million to two hundred and fifty million naira to aide in the general administration of the institution.
 
The Education Commissioner said that the state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, is passionate about the educational development of the state having identified education as the bedrock of industrialisation and that he is committed to revamping the education sector to provide the needed manpower for his industrialisation programme, and commended the Mathematical genius, Engr. Ufot Ekong, for taking the lead in enhancing academic excellence in the state.
 
Engr. Ufot Ekong who is currently undertaking a masters programme in Electrical Electronic Systems at Tokai University, Japan, said that the time has come for every Akwa Ibom person to stand up and be counted by working hard to become a model for others to emulate.
 
He said Akwa Ibom people are known to be hard working having distinguished themselves in their fields of endeavor; and stated that the only African medical practitioner in Japan is an Akwa Ibom indigene.

The Mathematical genius described Dakkada as an ideology, mindset, culture and a way of thinking, stating that his educational project is designed to inspire, encourage and motivate Akwa Ibom people to rise to the faith of greatness and excel wherever they find themselves.
 
For this year, Engr. Ekong said he is donating ten thousand Exercise Books with the Dakkada creed written behind them to selected secondary schools within the three Senatorial Districts of the state and that he would continue to contribute his quota towards educational development of the state.
 
Engr. Ekong who came for the presentation of the education materials alongside his mother, Mrs. Aniekan Ekong, and siblings, expressed appreciation to the present administration for its investment in education and called on individuals, groups and corporate bodies to partner the state government in providing quality education for the people, stating that investment in education is most effective and single way of reducing poverty and putting in place sustainable development.

In their separate reactions, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Marketing and Brand Management, Mr. Sam Edoho, State President, All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCPSS), Mr. Levinus Odiong, and Principal, Community Secondary School, 4-Towns, Uyo, Mr. Henry Ekanem, stated that the Governor has brought education to the front burner in the programmes of his administration.
 
Mr. Edoho congratulated Engr. Ufot Ekong for his outstanding educational attainment in Japan and for his initiative in encouraging other young stars of his home state. He called on other indigenes of the state who have made their mark in their fields of study to follow the precedent of Engr. Ekong.
