Chidi Odinkalu Speaks At 2015 BrandiQ Symposium

Chairman of the Governing Council of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu speaks as a panelist at the 2015 BrandiQ Symposium scheduled to hold on November 4 at the prestigious Metropolitan Club, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Once described by a foremost African magazine as “a true bastion of justice and human freedom of a new Africa,” Odinkalu holds a Ph.D. degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Admitted to the Nigerian Bar in November 1988, he received his Ph.D. in law from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE); his Master’s Degree in law from the University of Lagos and his first degree also in Law from the then Imo State University, precursor of today’s Abia State University. In the wake of the June 12 1993 annulled presidential elections in Nigeria, Odinkalu was exiled to the United Kingdom where he pioneered the Africa and Middle East Programme of the International Centre for the Legal Protection of Human Rights, INTERIGHTS.

Odinkalu is a highly acclaimed scholar whose works on international law and the African economy have appeared in books and over 60 academic articles. He is a visiting Professor of law at the International Criminal Law Centre at the Open University of Tanzania, and was formerly Jeremiah Smith Jr. visiting Professor of Law at the Harvard Law School in Cambridge Massachusetts and Brandeis International Fellow at the International Centre for Ethics, Justice and Public Life.
Aside his numerous affiliations with various networks and groups across Africa, he is also the founder of the Section on Public Interest and Development Law (SPIDEL) at the Nigerian Bar and member of the Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Nigeria’s Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will deliver the keynote address while former Minister of Education and Senior Economic Advisor of Open Society Foundation, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili will be the guest speaker.
The event which is themed: “Reinventing Brand Nigeria for the 21st Century Market Economy through Public Accountability and Responsible Citizenship” will also witness the presence of other luminary figures including Prof. Emevwo Biakolo – Director, PhD Programme, Pan Atlantic University, Lagos; and Prof. Abubakar Momoh – Director General, The Electoral Institute, Abuja.
