DJ MAPHORISA ENLISTED AMONG COKE STUDIO AFRICA – 2017 SUPER 8 PRODUCERS

Acclaimed South African DJ and music producer: DJ Maphorisa is by far one of Africa’s biggest music producers of our time. The multi–talented artist who has delivered mega continental bangers like Major Lazer’s “Particular”, Mafikizolo’s “Khona”, Yuri Da Cunha’s “Y-Tjukutja” and his very own “Soweto Baby” makes a return to Coke Studio Africa this year for his second time. On the new season that has already premiered across more than 30 African countries, DJ Maphorisa produces the following artist pairings: Khaligraph (Kenya) and Bruce Melodie (Rwanda) and the trio: Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Bisa Kdei (Ghana) and Shellsy Baronet (Mozambique).
Speaking on his return to the show DJ Maphorisa said, “A big shout out to Coke Studio Africa for making this happen. It’s a big platform and gives [artists and producers] more confidence and a chance to share cultures and learn from each other. I am really humbled to work all these great artists and to learn more.” Maphorisa will also co-produce a special Coke Studio ‘Global Fusion Edition’ episode featuring the show’s international guest star this year – global R&B/pop icon, Jason Derulo, alongside 11 African stars. He added: “Shout out to Jason Derulo, he is a really cool guy right from the first time I met him. We already did some amazing stuff together so look out for that. Shout out to Coke Studio Africa for making this happen, the show is bringing artists together and giving them confidence. We also get to exchange cultures, vibes and get to learn new things.”
In 2017, Coke Studio has enlisted 8 super producers responsible for engineering some of the biggest African and global hits this decade. DJ Maphorisa is among Coke Studio’s super 8 music producers tasked with engineering music collaborations and fusions among the show’s artists drawn from 18 African countries. The rest of the producers include Sketchy Bongo (South Africa), Gemini Major (Malawi/South Africa), GospelOnDeBeatz (Nigeria), Nahreel (Tanzania), Killbeatz (Ghana), Shado Chris (Ivory Coast) and Masterkraft (Nigeria).
DJ Maphorisa’s recent masterpiece is Major Lazer’s “Particular” featuring Patoranking, Ice Prince, Jidenna and Nasty. Maphorisa talked about the single that’s already performing well globally. “Making ‘Particular’ was really dope! It is not easy to put together 5 artists together but we did it!” On Coke Studio Africa last year, DJ Maphorisa produced the artist pairings: Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania) and Patoranking (Nigeria); Kiss Daniel (Nigeria) and Bahati (Kenya) and Jaguar (Kenya) and EL (Ghana). He also produced last year’s guest star international R&B icon: Trey Songz alongside several African artists.
