Dolce & Gabbana Debuts Abaya and Hijab Collection

Italian fashion line Dolce & Gabbana debuted its first abaya and hijab collection for its Muslim customers.
The collection, which debuted on Style.com’s Arabia site, features long, airy abaya cloaks in mostly muted neutrals, such as black, white, and a sandy beige, on a single model, whose hair is covered with a hijab.

According to a report by Thomson Reuters, Muslim shoppers spent $266 billion on clothing and footwear in 2013 and are expected to spend $484 billion by 2019.
As runway fashion is veering dramatically in the opposite direction, with bare-chested models becoming the norm on the catwalks, top fashion outlets such as DKNY, H&M, Tommy Hilfiger and  Mango have over the years unveil their muslim collections especially during the Ramadan season. But the growing costumer’s interest is believed to be one of the reasons D&G is launching its collections too.
Some pieces also feature intricate floral and citrus lace detail, in a nod to the designer’s spring 2016 collection.
