[ad id=”187″]Over 100 top golfers from within and outside Nigeria are expected to slug it out in the ninth edition of the Heineken/SPG Open Golf competition holding on June 12th to 14th at the prestigious 18 hole Le Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The two day tournament sponsored by Heineken, world’s leading international premium lager beer, has continued to attract golfers and golf fans in the country and beyond. The brand remains the major sponsor that has thrown its weight behind the game since its inception.
Regarded as the most challenging golf course in West-Africa, Le Meridien Ibom Golf Course had played host to the competition since it was initiated. The first tournament had only 64 players.
According to Senior Brand Manager Heineken, Mrs. Ngozi Nkwoji, the brand is a “Big Friend” of golf hence its continued sponsorship which is an attestation of its resolve to strengthen and promote the game in Nigeria. “As a world class beer, Heineken has been associating itself with the game of golf, an international sport. Our intention is to help build the image and standard of the sport in Nigeria through our continuous support,” she added.
In 2014, Mr. Paul Orawo, the National Engineering Manager of Nigerian Breweries Plc, emerged overall winner in the 8th edition of the championship while Susan Kolkotas won the overall best gross in the female category.
The SPG Open comprises a series of tournaments played on a quarterly basis on the Ibom Golf course, Uyo. The tournament is prided as one of the best golfing events in Nigeria.
