Meta To Expand WhatsApp Channels Feature Globally

Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has announced the expansion of its WhatsApp channels to over 150 countries to deliver a private way to receive updates that matter to users.

According to a statement released by the instant messaging platform, “Our goal is to build the most private broadcast service available. Channels are separate from your chats, and who you choose to follow is not visible to other followers. We also protect the personal information of both admins and followers.”

With the global launch, WhatsApp will have an improved directory to find channels based on your country. You can sort this list by new, most active, and most popular. When users forward an update from a channel to a group or an individual, it will include a link back to the channel.

While announcing the rollout on his new WhatsApp channel, Mark Zuckerberg said, “Excited to introduce you all to WhatsApp Channels, a new private way for you to get updates from people and organizations you follow. I’m starting this channel to share Meta news and updates.”

In his remarks, We’ve appreciated all the positive feedback from our initial start in ten countries. As we expand Channels globally, we’re introducing the following updates such as Enhanced Directory which help you find channels to follow that are automatically filtered based on your country. You can also view channels that are new, most active, and popular based on the number of followers.

Reactions is another update that helps react using emojis to give feedback and see a count of total reactions. How you react will not be shown to followers.

With Editing, which is another update admins will be able to make changes to their Updates for up to 30 days, when we automatically delete them from our servers.  Forwarding, Whenever you forward an Update to chats or groups it will include a link back to the channel so people can find out more.

The app has assured that it will continue to add more features and expand Channels based on feedback it get from users. Over the coming months, they will also make it possible for anyone to create a channel.
