NPM Rejects Kano LG Elections

By Igho Akeregha,
The New Progressive Movement (NPM) at the weekend vowed to stop President Muhammadu Buhari from winning the 2019 presidential elections should he decide to run. The party also rejected the February 10 local government elections in Kano State saying the exercise was riddled with irregularities and manipulation.
Addressing the media in Abuja, Mustapha Bala Getso, National Chairman of the party said although the NPM secured over 33,000 votes and won over 10 councilorship seats, the election was manipulated by the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the state.
According to him, “unfortunately, we have come to change what is going on in our state. Everyone have seen what really happened in Kano state as underage voters and misappropriation held sway during the elections”.
He regretted that  Nigerian politics is dominated by old politicians who are bent on subjugating the people warning that his party has come to enthrone development of the country anchored on the strength of young people.
Getso said his party was not given opportunity to access its results saying “this result that we were able to secure was gotten through our members that used their phones to capture the results. We have proof and evidence”
He said it is unfortunate that the state government cannot conduct a free and fair local government elections adding that the NPM has taken the exercise as a litmus test ahead of the 2019 general elections to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Getso who described himself as the youngest party chairman in Nigeria disclosed that the NPM is hopeful that it will succeed in changing the political template in Nigeria by setting new stat cards and delivering Nigerians from the current t hardship witnessed across the country.
