Out of 13,000 candidates who sought admission into the Federal University of Technology, Minna, over 8500 of them were denied admission as only 4,472 candidates were accepted into the university.
Prof Abdullahi Bala, the Vice Chancellor of the university announced this at the 31st Matriculation Ceremony for the for fresh students held at the Suleimanu Kumo Convocation Square in University main campus, Minna, on Saturday, April 7, 2018.
The VC while addressing the new students advised them to uphold the enviable record of responsible studentship for which the University is noted.
He also advised them to refrain from vices such as examination malpractice, cultism, fighting and drug abuse.
Bala made it clear to the new students that a breach of their matriculation oath would lead to an unceremonious exit from the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, asked the students to study the students handbook saying it will serve as a guide for them.
VC also has a word for students living off-campus
After addressing the matriculating students on proper conduct in the university, the VC also admonished those living off-campus to respect the values and traditions of their host communities and co-exist peacefully with them.
On the challenges of accommodation and transportation, he said that the university management was working hard to evolve solutions to address the issues.
He urged the new students to always channel their concerns to the relevant authorities and not take laws into their hands.
