Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo, on Wednesday, became the first athlete to gain 200 million followers on social media. Ronaldo now leads the likes of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr. and David Beckham who occupy second, third and fourth places respectively.
Ronaldo took to his Twitter account to thank fans for the feat.

With earnings of an estimated $80 million, the former Manchester United ace has been ranked the second highest paid athlete in The World’s Highest-Paid Athletes list published by Forbes just behind Floyd Mayweather in 2014.
Unlike other sports, soccer still leads the pack of followership with just 12 soccer stars collectively pulling 337 million fans compared to 312 million for athletes in the top 100 across all other sports.
A 2014 research by Forbes shows soccer players also amass the three largest followings on social media and five of the top six.
