Wigwe: US Transportation Safety Agency Says Helicopter Crashed in Rainy, Wintry Conditions

The helicopter carrying Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe, his wife and son,  and for head of NGX, Otunba Abimbola Ogunbanjo crashed amid rainy and wintry conditions, US transportation safety board said.

The helicopter carrying six people crashed and caught on fire on Friday night near the California-Nevada border, killing all of those aboard.

The Federal Aviation Administration said that the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter crashed around 10 p.m. local time near Nipton, California, a community about 60 miles south of Las Vegas in eastern San Bernardino County.

A board member with the National Transportation Safety Board, Michael Graham, during a news conference on Saturday, said the helicopter departed from Palm Springs, California at 8:45pm and was headed toward Boulder City, Nevada.

The charter flight crashed near Halloran Springs, California around 10:08pm.

Mr. Graham said all those onboard — two crew members and four passengers — were killed, adding that witnesses reported that the helicopter crashed amid rainy and wintry conditions.

The flight was operated by Orbic Air LLC, based out of Burbank, California

The helicopter was last seen near Barstow, Calif., at 9:49 p.m., according to FlightAware, a flight tracking service.

The National Transportation Safety Board and FAA are investigating the crash, officials said.
