ABF Urges Young Nigerians To Embrace Journalism

Some media practitioners in Nigeria, under the auspices of Arewa Broadcasters Forum, have urged Nigerians to give maximum support to the government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, to enable him to achieve his goals for the nation.

Chairman of Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum, Abdullahi Yelwa, made the call in an interview with State House Correspondents after he led members of the Forum on a courtesy call to Vice President Kashim Shettima.

He also used the opportunity to enjoin young Journalists not to despair because they will excel in their chosen profession.

“We want to see in what ways we can effectively work with the government to make sure that the essence of the government is met. We shall continue to support the government and also do what we have to as Journalists.

“We shall also mobilise Nigerians to appreciate the challenges that the government is facing. The government cannot do it alone and the citzens must wake up and do all they need to do to help the government,” he said.

He also used the opportunity to call on young Nigerians to embrace the Journalism profession because opportunities abound in it.

“The job will always be there. As Journalists, there will always be room for us to practice our trade. Things are hard I agree but they should not despair but continue to train and retrain; luckily Journalism is taking a variety of forms. It was different during our days but today a Journalist can operate from his own house and can be a major source of gathering information both within and outside the country,” he added.

A member of the Forum and Professor of Broadcasting, Ladi Adamu, added her voice to the call on students to embrace Journalism as a career.

She said: “I would like to encourage a lot of students to study broadcasting because when you look at Mass Communication, broadcasting is like 80 percent of it, so the challenge some of the students are having is that the course is a bit broad and you have to match theory with practice together. That is one of the reasons why some of them shy away from broadcasting but it is an interesting area.”
