Energia Limited, a Nigerian oil and gas exploration and production company, has named @Oladimeji Bashorun as its new Chief Executive Officer, following the exit of Chidi Egonu.

The appointment marks a leadership transition from within. Bashorun previously served as Chief Operating Officer, a role in which he oversaw the company’s core operations and contributed to shaping its long-term strategic direction. His elevation reflects a continuity approach often favoured in the upstream sector, where operational familiarity and institutional knowledge are critical to stability and performance.

In a statement, the company described Bashorun’s tenure as COO as pivotal, citing his role in driving operational efficiency and strengthening internal processes. His experience spans more than two decades in the oil and gas industry, with prior roles at Shell Petroleum Development Company and Sahara Upstream, where he held both technical and leadership responsibilities across asset management and production operations.

Chairman of Energia, George Osahon, said the board’s decision underscores confidence in Bashorun’s leadership track record and industry expertise. He noted that his contributions to operational excellence and strategic execution have been central to the company’s progress in recent years.

“Oladimeji Bashorun has demonstrated strong leadership and deep industry knowledge during his time as Chief Operating Officer,” Osahon said. “The board is confident that under his leadership as CEO, Energia will continue to strengthen its position in the industry while delivering sustained value to stakeholders.”

Bashorun, in his response, described the appointment as both an honour and a responsibility. He emphasised continuity, teamwork and performance as priorities for his tenure.

“I look forward to working closely with the team to build on our achievements and advance Energia’s commitment to operational excellence, responsible energy development, and value creation,” he said.

Energia added that its strategic direction under the new leadership will focus on improving operational performance, expanding growth opportunities and contributing to Nigeria’s energy security. The company also reiterated its commitment to environmental responsibility and community development as part of its broader corporate agenda.

The transition comes at a time when Nigeria’s upstream sector continues to navigate a complex mix of regulatory reforms, cost pressures and evolving global energy dynamics, placing a premium on experienced leadership and execution discipline.
