The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has been honored with the ‘Pioneering Access to Digital Economy’ award at the Nigeria Innovation Awards for its contributions to the growth of the country’s digital economy.

The Nigeria Innovation Awards is another feature of the Nigeria Innovation Summit. The summit which is in its 8th edition was held on Friday, October 6, 2023, in the early hours of the day and brought together stakeholders from different sectors of the economy to dissect industry issues while the awards was held in the evening.

Nigeria Innovation Awards recognizes and promotes States, Ministries, Companies, Organizations, Institutions, Startups, and Innovators that have embraced innovation to move the country forward.

The Director of Public Affairs, NCC, Reuben Muoka who received the award on behalf of the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof Umar Danbatta said the award is a testament to the commission’s commitment to driving the growth of the country’s digital economy and it won’t rest on its oars in creating an enabling environment for competition among operators in the industry as well as ensuring the provision of qualitative and efficient telecommunications services throughout the country.

According to him, “We want to appreciate innovation in Africa (organizers of the award) for identifying the Nigerian Communications Commission in the provision of access to the digital economy, we know that the digital economy is very encompassing and a whole lot of things are in it. And of course, for this organization to identify the job that NCC is doing is quite commendable. And of course, as our EVC will do when he receives such awards, he usually dedicates it to staff for supporting him in fulfilling the mandate of creating innovation and stability in the Nigerian telecom industry.”
